Juniors to sponsor Mwanza

Posted by Wick Youth Club on November 21, 2013 at 9:35 AM Comments comments (0)

Joshua Hughes, a former member of our Wednesday night Juniors, has recently moved with his family to Mwanza in Tanzania.

Joshua's Mum Bev was also a regular at the Youth Club attending badminton every week. Since moving there they have been volunteering at a rural Tanzanian government school helping to provide a food garden and have become involved in helping to raise money for a charity who provide paint, books, furniture and other resources needed in setting up schools.

Over the next few months all the children attending the Youth Club will be helping to raise money for this very worthwhile charity, details of which can be found at http://www.tatafrica.co.uk

We will be holding a sponsored silence and conga as well as other fundraising events. We will be issuing forms shortly to all members so please give generously for this worthwhile cause. A pound might not seem like much to us but it can go a long way in helping to change the lives of these children by helping to give them an education.

On Thursday 5th September 2013, Wick Youth Club will be holding a SPACE EVENING when we will be visited by former American astronaut, Duane Carey who piloted a 2002 mission onboard the space shuttle Columbia to upgrade the Hubble Space Telescope. The astronaut spent ten days in space orbiting the earth 165 times and travelled over 3.9 million miles on what was to be Columbia's last complete mission.

Many parents will have heard all about Duane from their children as he has visited local schools before. Now is the time for you to come along with your children and meet the man for yourself. Duane will be giving a talk on his humble beginnings growing up in housing projects of St Paul in Minnesota in a one parent family. He will then discus his education, his United States Air Force career and his training and jounrey to the Hubble Space Telescope as a Space Shuttle Pilot.

5th September 2013 at Wick Youth Club from 6:30pm to 7:30pm. A night for all the family to enjoy..
